Compagnie Maritime Belge (CMB), based in Antwerp, and Japanese shipbuilder Tsuneishi Facilities & Craft (TFC) announced their collaboration to construct a hydrogen-powered ferry. TFC will bring its state-of-the-are shipbuilding expertise, whereas CMB Technologies will bring their knowledge on marine hydrogen systems.
Norwegian shipbuilder Ulstein Verft announced delivery of the world’s largest plug-in hybrid vessel, ‘Color Hybrid’, to Oslo-based company Color Line, on 1st August. The ship represents an important milestone for its innovative and new environmentally friendly solutions.

Torqeedo provided the integrated propulsion system for the world’s first electric-powered freefall lifeboat, which is being built by the Dutch builder Verhoef. The vessel recently passed its final drop tests, making it the first fully functional electric lifeboat in the world.
The US Navy informed that it is developing a new ship coating that will reduce fuel and energy costs. Namely, the Office of Naval Research is sponsoring work by Dr. Anish Tuteja, an associate professor of materials science and engineering at the University of Michigan, to create an omniphobic coating. This coating is clear and can be applied to numerous surfaces.
