The US Navy reports that marines and sailors from US Central Command's Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team (FASTCENT) provided the MSC-chartered roro Liberty with an on-board security presence, during the vessel's voyage through the Strait Of Hormuz, following the tensions that have spiked in the area. 

It has been over two years since the US Navy was shaken by two successive collisions involving US navy ships and claiming lives of 17 sailors. On 21 August 2017 one of the deadliest accidents in the history of US Navy took place. As the US warship 'John S McCain' was sailing in the Singapore Strait, one of the busiest waterways in the world, it collided with the Liberian-flagged chemical tanker 'Alnic MC'. The result? Ten sailors of the US warship lost their lives, while 48 more were injured, in what is considered an example of lack of effective operational oversight.

A Canadian businessman as well as his company have pleaded guilty regarding charges that they transferred technical details about a US Navy undersea submarine rescue vehicle to China. This was done as an effort to sell versions to the Chinese navy, according to US court records.

The US Navy collaborated with the decommissioned USS Midway to trial an unmanned aerial vehicle as another tool in its inventory for the management of corrosion on its ships. The UAV captures ship imagery for a few minutes along its predetermined flight path.

The Hurricane Dorian left damages behind, while passing the Bahamas, coasts of Florida and Mid-Atlantic states. The storm affected cruise itineraries, including heavy weather diversions, delays and cancellations. The storm is off Cape Fear, and it is expected to weaken as it heads offshore towards Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
