Recent reports say operators are directing ships through the Straits of Magellan and round The Cape of Good Hope in order to save on canal dues amid the suppressed fuel prices. In this regard,  the UK Club issued a reminder to Masters of the considerations that should be taken into account when operating in areas of adverse weather conditions.     

The UK P&I Club launched a risk identification guide concerning inspections conducted onboard commercial vessels, in efforts to avoid or prevent accidents.

UK P&I Club recently published a guide concerning the controls and the key points that the UK Club’s Risk Assessors look for when inspecting a vessel. The UK Club reported that they see several bunker quality issues from delivery of alleged off-specification or contaminated bunkers. In many of these cases fuel sampling procedures on board at the time of delivery have been found inadequate and in many cases unreliable.

Back pain is a major cause of disability on a global scale, while it is also a common health problem experienced in the maritime workplace.
