In light of the crew change crisis, Asian Shipowners' Association (ASA) issued a letter to the Asian government and to the Thailand authorities to raise awareness on the stranded seafarers during the pandemic.

Holland America Line's Westerdam cruise ship has been repeatedly denied entrance in several ports after allegations that passengers have been infected by Coronavirus, which has resulted to the vessel for Sihanoukville, Cambodia.

Representatives from the ITF Fishers Rights Network presented a petition, signed by more than 1,200 migrant fishers, calling on the Thai Government to directly implement and enforce the ILO Convention 188, which the country ratified in January 2019.

PSA Thailand and SCG Logistics Management Company are creating a joint venture to invest in developing and operating the Thai Prosperity Terminal in Thailand. The two partners will also rename it, Thai Connectivity Terminal (TCT). The new company will be called SCG-PSA Holdings, and it will be a springboard for possible joint exploration and investment in supply chain, focusing greatly on Thailand.

The International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) called on the Thai government to implement and enforce the 'Work in Fishing' Convention, and ratify ILO Conventions 87 and 98, to decrease the risks of forced labour or labour rights abuses in seafood industry supply chains in Thailand.

More than 130 people were transferred to hospital, after an explosion and fire onboard the South Korean container ship 'KMTC Hong Kong' while berthed in Thailand’s eastern Laem Chabang port on Saturday. Video footage depicts the magnitude of the fire.

Asian governments are trying to improve the facilities and ease the regulations to attract more super yachts to cruise in the region and spend time in their marinas. In fact, in Thailand this has led to an increase in visiting super yachts, reaching an all time high in Phuket.  Namely, during February, the Yacht Haven Marina accommodated 36 super yachts.

APM Terminals signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sahathai Terminal PLC and Mitr Phol Sugar to develop a 345,000 TEU capacity greenfield container terminal in Bangkok, Thailand. Bangkok River Terminal Limited will accommodate Thailand’s increasing containerized import and export trade. Completion of the transaction is subject to receiving applicable regulatory approvals and licenses.
