The workshop which was organized under the Global Initiative project for South East Asia (GI SEA) framework, was a joint project with the oil and gas industry (IPIECA), supporting the implementation of IMO's Convention on Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response and Co-operation (the OPRC 90 Convention).

In fact, it is an important part of IMO's capacity building work is to support countries in order to be prepared for any incidents.

The thirty-five participants from 15 government organizations and oil and gas corporations learned about the latest international practices and developments in the field of oil spill readiness and reaction. Moreover, areas of improvement in the existing national plan have been pinpointed through this initiative.
