Swedish shipping industry to go carbon-neutral by 2045

The Swedish shipping sector is planning to end the use of fossil fuels in the country by 2045, meeting national climate goals. Specifically, the Swedish Shipowners’ Association is creating plan to achieve zero GHG emissions, along with Fossil-free Sweden, a government initiative. Rikard Engström and Svante Axelsson, the heads of the two organisations, said that shipping can become more efficient and switch to biofuels or electricity.

Cargo vessel runs aground off Sweden

A cargo vessel was damaged after grounding in the Bråviken bay, off Sweden, the Swedish Maritime Administration reported. The vessel named 'Listervik' allied with rocky bottom west of Oxelösund. After the grounding, the vessel was escorted by the Swedish Coast Guard ships to the Port of Oxelosund where it moored in the morning hours of February 8.

The Maritime Connectivity Platform Consortium (MCPC) was established with a signature ceremony during the conference 'e-navigation underway international 2019'. The MCP is an open source, vendor-neutral digital maritime domain to bring common internet standards to maritime navigation and transportation systems. The MCP enables infrastructures for efficient, secure, reliable and seamless electronic information exchange among maritime stakeholders using available communication systems.
