From the beginning of 2018, the Sea Port of Saint Petersburg invested RUB 7.3 million as part of its social programme. Major cruise firm Carnival Corporation officially opened its second cruise terminal at the Port of Barcelona with an inauguration ceremony attended by government, business and community representatives. Gearing up for the 2020 global sulphur cap, Singapore-based APL said it will be using low-sulphur fuel oil across its vessel fleet, employ scrubbers on some of its ships, while it will also deploy LNG-fueled vessels, under its parent group CMA CGM's earlier announced plans to take delivery of nine new 22,000 TEU LNG-powered ships.

The UK Government announced plans to ban the sale of plastic straws, drink stirrers and plastic-stemmed cotton buds at the start of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Summit. In order to eliminate these items from use, UK will work with industry to develop alternatives and ensure there is sufficient time to adapt.

Spanish ferry operator Baleària has put into service the 'Eco Lux' to the Eivissa-Formentera route, the second eco-fast ferry in the series of four that are destined to cover this line. Compared with the ships of the Maverick series, operating this line until recently, the 'Eco Aqua' reduces CO2 emissions by around 35%.
