Rolls-Royce has received an order for four diesel engines to power the world’s largest hybrid ferry being built for the Norwegian cruise and transport company Color Line.

Wärtsilä technology group and US-based cruise operator Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings have renewed their existing performance-based service agreement, aiming to ensure the optimum performance levels of the engines on board 10 NCLH cruise ships.

Wärtsilä and Maran Gas Maritime (MGM) extend their current cooperation with a five-year agreement. The agreement covers the maintenance of MGM’s 21 TFDE (tri-fuel diesel electric) LNG carriers, that are equipped with Wärtsilä 50DF engines.

Wärtsilä announced the introduction of a fully integrated hybrid power module, combining engines, an energy storage system, and power electronics optimised to work together through a newly developed energy management system. The Wärtsilä HY is the first hybrid power module of this type and it is exposed at this year's Norshipping Conference.

ExxonMobil reveals its new MobilGard Cylinder Condition Monitoring programme which is designed to help optimise engine protection and reduce operating costs. The company says that data analysis can provide insight into feed rates, component wear and engine failure.

MAN Diesel and Turbo announced that its world’s first Gas Injection Ethane two-stroke engine has successfully passed gas trials on board the ‘Gaschem Beluga’, a liquefied ethylene gas carrier, while sailing between Houston and the Bahamas. The ship crossed the Atlantic on its way to Europe, powered solely by ethane, and has achieved a total of 550 operational hours.

Taking place between the 10th-11th May in Hamburg, the Motorship 39th Propulsion & Emissions Conference offered insight into the latest developments within engine and propeller design, as well as maintenance. The programme featured technical presentations, case studies and panel discussions, as well as interaction with the speakers directly though the P&E App.

WinGD announced that installed its W-Xpert Full Mission Simulator, for training complete engine room crews, at the Marine Power Academy Training Centre of Hudong Heavy Machinery, in Shanghai, China. The simulator joins a network of some 20 further installations at strategic locations around the world.

Maersk Fluid Technology has signed agreements with Evergas and Clipper Group, for the supply of the SEA-Mate® Blending-on-Board (BOB) system. The BOB system, addressing to all 2-stroke engine sizes, aims to facilitate the cylinder lubrication and system oil quality.

ABB will equip two DFDS vessels with shaft generators that will raise their energy efficiency, in order to meet the latest environmental regulations. Two shaft generators will be installed in each of the cargo Ro-Ro ships, allowing the main engines to operate at a wider speed range.
