In its latest piracy report, ReCAAP ISC reported that a total of eight incidents of armed robbery against ships were reported in Asia in May 2018. No piracy incident was reported, as well as no report of abduction of crew in the Sulu-Celebes Seas or hijacking of ships for theft of oil cargo.

Freight transport insurer TT Club, along with the management consulting firm McKinsey, published the report called "Brave new world? - Container transport in 2043." The report summarizes what the industry leaders think about what the future will hold for the container industry over the next 25 years.

The transition to a more sustainable energy system is too slow. A sustainable development path, consistent with the Paris Agreement target, does not allow for further delays in policy, industry and consumer action to reduce emissions, according to Equinor's new Energy Perspectives report.

A project by the University of Wisconsin-Superior’s LSRI, released a study on nonindigenous species of plankton in ballast discharges from US and Canadian lakers to western Lake Superior. The study documented five species of non-indigenous zooplankton not yet established in western Lake Superior in laker ballast water discharged there.

The Mission to Seafarers has published the latest of its ongoing Seafarer Happiness Index reports, revealing a growing link between onboard connectivity and seafarer happiness levels. Overall Seafarers’ Happiness Index figures have shown a rise, and while it is obviously early days, it is positive to see growth across various key issues. 

The US Environmental Protection Agency and the Port Everglades in Florida announced release of a first-of-its-kind collaborative report, describing how EPA and the Port developed baseline and future year emission inventories for NOx and PM, and other harmful pollutants that result from typical port operations.

According to a report by IRENA, as the offshore wind power generation is spreading amongst the world, international standards can help surpass market barriers and drive further deployment. The report says that today the international standards are a reflection of European weather and sea conditions and an evolution is necessary to ensure that they are applicable to other areas as well.

The Port Equipment Manufacturers Association has published a report on crane operator health and safety, including 20 recommendations for crane manufacturers and terminal operators on how to improve rubber tyred gantry (RTG) and container crane cabin ergonomics and safety.
