Standard Club released a statement according to which direct trade between Qatar and seven states, also known as 'restricted states', Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Yemen, Libya and the Maldives remains restricted or prohibited.

Qatar Free Zones Authority announced the launch of a new port and marine cluster, called 'Marsa', which will be located at the heart of Umm Alhoul Free Zone. The area will be near the Hamad Port and just 20 minutes from Doha. It will also be a fully integrated marine ecosystem, capable of supporting various marine businesses.

In order to attract liners, Qatar is providing financial incentives. Namely, shipping lines that will have direct services at Hamad Port will receive those incentives. However, one of the conditions to get them, is for these lines not to transship within a range of 250 Nm from the Port. Sources report that this is an attempt by Qatar to use its financial strength to undermine throughput at nearby ports, and attract more liners.

Qatar ports experienced increase container traffic in January 2019. As data from Mwani Qatar show, the ports handled 110.394 TEU containers, compared to 103.996 TEU containers in January 2018. The ports also accommodated 334 vessels. 

The UAE has eased a ban on the shipping of goods between it and Qatar, enforced under a political and economic boycott of Doha, according to port circular. An Abu Dhabi Ports circular cancelled previous directives that banned cargoes of Qatar origin from UAE waters and ports, and those of UAE origin from Qatar.

Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil have taken the final investment decision for developing the Golden Pass LNG export project, which is located in Sabine Pass, Texas. The LNG export project is owned by Golden Pass Products LLC, a joint venture between affiliates of Qatar Petroleum, holding the 70% and ExxonMobil, the 30%.

Taiwan imported 15.65 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from January to November, up by 1.6% in comparison to the same period in the year before, according to sources. In November, Taiwan imported 1.03 million tonnes of the chilled fuel, which decreased by 23.4% when compared to 1.35 tonnes the country received the same month in 2017.

The US wants Qatar, which is the leader on LNG supply globally, to compete Russia's gas dominance in Europe, according to Reuters. The US are under conversation with Doha about supplying Europe with LNG, as it wants Germany and other countries to import Qatari and US gas rather than from Russia, which now accounts for 60 percent of German gas imports, as reported by Deputy U.S. Energy Secretary Dan Brouillette.

Qatar's ports reached an annual record concerning their performance during 2018 with round growth in all the segments. According to the Peninsula, the ports in the country achieved highest annual performance in containers, vessels and livestock segments in 2018.

Turkey launched the world's biggest ship-to-ship LNG transfers on January 2 in the mediterranean port of Dortyol, Mehmet Tecimen, oil utilities regional director of Turkish Petroleum Pipeline Corporation (BOTAS) announced. Turkey aims to limit dependency on pipeline gas through FSRUs, and therefore, these units dock at ports close to regions with higher gas demand.
