Sabah Ports Sdn Bhd and Indonesia Port Corporation (IPC) or PT Pelabuhan Indonesia II (Persero) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) achieving business potential and boost bilateral trade, relations and port related training apprenticeship, exchange of information to boost port efficiency for both parties.

On Monday, September 2, Singapore-based port operator PSA International completed the acquisition of Penn Terminals from Macquarie Infrastructure Partners, following formal approval by the relevant regulatory authorities.

Two mobile harbor cranes from Gottwald left from Westdore, Holland on July 31, 2019. The cranes arrived at Yilport Puerto Bolívar in Ecuador on August 27, bringing the number of MHCs to four cranes. These two cranes will start operations in November 2019.

Marc Garneau, the Canadian Minister of Transport, announced a major investment of $50 million to improve the infrastructure at Pointe-Noire terminal in Sept-Îles to support major mining industry development and assist local businesses compete by transporting Canadian goods to international markets.

Filomena Tassi, the Canadian Minister of Seniors and Member of Parliament for Hamilton West - Ancaster - Dundas, on behalf of Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, announced a major investment of $5.5 million for a project that will increase capacity at the Port of Hamilton, and move Canadian goods to international markets more efficiently.

As the Port of Rotterdam informs, after the first six tanks arrived at the end of July, the expansion of Vopak Botlek is well underway. With this project, 63,000 cubic metres of storage capacity must have been added to the arsenal by the second half of 2020. The expansion is being built 'fit-for-purpose’ for the storage of styrene.

The foundation works have already started, and the construction of the Rotterdam Polymer Hub logistics centre will start soon. The aim is to be operational by 1 April. A 15,500-square-metre container yard will be constructed next to the warehouse, including a tilt platform for the storage of bulk containers.

The Port of Gdansk Authority has signed an agreement with a consulting company, aiming to support the construction of the port basing on a public-private partnership model. In the meantime, during 2019, the Port of Gdansk set new records in cargo handling, while also continuing its intensive work on its key infrastructural project which is the Central Port.

UNCTAD placed the Shanghai port first in 2019 ranking of the world’s best-connected ports, that was published on August 7. The Shanghai port garnered a connectivity score of 134 points, followed by the ports of Singapore (124.63 points), Pusan (114.45 points) in Korea and Ningbo (114.35 points), also in China.
