DNV focused on how ShipGaz manages its operations for continuous improvement ShipGaz Training was awarded the DNV SeaSkill Maritime Education and Training Certificate. The certificate was handed over to ShipGaz Training at the Nor-Shipping conference in Oslo, Norway.DNV SeaSkill helps training providers and manufacturers to ensure that competence is properly addressed, built and retained.ShipGaz Training is the first on-line training provider meeting DNV Seaskill requirements. By this certification, ShipGaz Training has proved its ability to deliver high quality, consistent services according to a well-recognised standard.During the audit leading up to certification, DNV focused on how ShipGaz manages its operations and reflects on its own performance in order to achieve continuous improvement.Approximately 100 maritime academies, training centres and simulator centres are currently certified by DNV SeaSkill.Source: DNV

Value for money Japanese company Chugoku Marine Paints (CMP) has introduced two new hull coatings at Nor-Shipping, which the company says will offer advantages to shipowners in terms of value for money.Like other paint companies, CMP has been looking for an anti-fouling that can provide similar value and performance to TBT. CMP believes that it has been involved in this quest longer than most; by the time the TBT ban became reality, its Seagrandprix 1000 silyl coating was already on the market, and similar technology has the since been adopted by other manufacturers. This paint has now proved itself over 20 years.Other CMP developments such as copper-free self-polishing ionomer based products have also proved successful, delivering, like Seagrandprix, up to 60 months in service.The first of the new products is Seagrandprix 1000 L, a development of the original TBT-free product. This too is a fully hydrolysing undiluted silyl, but with a more advanced formulation, which CMP says makes it economical in thickness required for long in-service periods, thanks to it being higher in volume solids and using high-quality raw materials.The other new coating, which the company describes as beyond silyl, is Seaflo Neo, which is the result of several years ...

Announced at the Nor-Shipping Opening Conference on May 24, 2011 The awards, which showcase industry excellence, were presented by Norwegian Minister of Trade & Industry Trond Giske and Henrik Madsen, CEO of Det Norske Veritas (DNV). An independent jury considered a total of 40 candidates for the 2011 awards.The Clean Ship Award honors the shipowner and ship that has contributed to the greatest reduction of emissions to air or discharges to sea in relation to its function and operation. The inaugural award went to Vale S.A. for the Vale Brasil, an ore carrier with low emissions per ton of cargo that is expected to set a new standard for long-distance dry bulk carriers.The Next Generation Ship Award recognizes the yard, designer or owner with the most promising design idea for a ship that will be at sea in the coming decade, demonstrating the greatest advances to further the development of ocean transportation.The 2011 award was given to the Rolls-Royce Marine AS Environship Concept for a general cargo ship optimized to carry a combination of cargo typical for short sea shipping in Northern Europe. At Nor- Shipping 2011 May 24-27 The Norwegian and Japanese governments have signed a co-operation agreement on maritime technology at Nor-Shipping.Norwegian state secretary Rikke Lind and the Japanese transport minister Hideo Kubota signed the agreement in a special ceremony at the the week-long maritime technology exhibition in Oslo.The two countries have agreed to co-operate in technology areas such as LNG, offshore wind technology, ship recycling and environmental technologies.At the ceremony were representatives from Wilh. Wilhelmsen, Grieg Shipping, Statoil, the Norwegian Shipowners Association and the Norwegian research institute, Marintek. From Japan there were representatives from Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Japan Marine Science and the Japanese National Maritime Research Institute.Source : Seatrade Asia
