The proposed construction by Alaska Gas Development Corporation of a LNG pipeline and terminal in Cook Inlet, Alaska, could expose nearly half of the population of resident endangered beluga whales to dangerous levels of noise, according to Environmental Investigation Agency.

Spanish ferry operator Baleària has put into service the 'Eco Lux' to the Eivissa-Formentera route, the second eco-fast ferry in the series of four that are destined to cover this line. Compared with the ships of the Maverick series, operating this line until recently, the 'Eco Aqua' reduces CO2 emissions by around 35%. 

Nidec Industrial Solutions has signed a contract worth 8 million euros with Port System Authority of the Western Ligurian Sea to design and construct the “shore-to-ship” project in Genoa, to reduce air emissions, while minimizing the noise pollution that upsets tourists and inhabitants of the neighbouring areas.

The City Council of Amsterdam officially approved the ‘Westpoort Noise Dispersion Plan’, on 14 March 2018, dividing the available noise zones in the Westpoort section of the Port among the plots of land located in the area. The plan discloses exactly how much noise zones are allocated to the plots located on the industrial site.

Noise and vibration analysis, along with mitigation and measurement can help enhance operational safety as far as personnel task performance, habitability, proper functioning of equipment, and structural integrity at sea, are concerned.

The noise from cargo, container and tanker vessels are causing communication problems for two key marine species on the Hauraki Gulf, Scientists from the University of Auckland stressed. Their research found that the common reef fish and bryde's whales have had their communication space reduced due to the amount of ship noise on the surface.

This move is added on the significant uptake of the Road Tanker Loading Facility which is set to open this summer. These two developments will enable the distribution of LNG as a fuel for the marine industry, trucks, industrial and commercial, as well as off-grid applications.

The discount is available to those who implement measures that reduce vessels’ environmental impacts, such as lowered air emissions, noise reduction while in the harbour, or other investments that improve environmental efficiency. 

Port of Amsterdam revealed plans to reduce shipping emissions and minimise environmental impact by working with the shipping sector. In its Clean Shipping Vision for 2030, the Port describes how it intends to achieve its sustainability objectives through concrete actions, such as reducing emissions of docked sea cruise ships by 50%.

ABB has secured a contract by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, to provide a technology solution that will enable power to be supplied from shore to the Global Container Terminal Deltaport. The project is part of a joint commitment by the federal government and the Port Authority to reduce environmental impact.
