Maersk Line announces new CO2 target

CEO of the Maersk Group Nils Smedegaard Andersen spoke at the BSR (Business for Social Responsibility) Conference in New York and outlined Maersk Line’s new CO2 target.   Highlighting the importance of an industry-wide effort to reduce CO2 emissions, Mr Andersen announced Maersk Line’s new Carbon Emissions target, reinforcing Maersk Line’s commitment to be ‘part of the solution’. "Over the past years, we have driven significant energy efficiency improvements across our fleet, pioneering initiatives from speed optimisation and technical upgrades to designing new and more energy efficient ships, the Triple-E’s" said Mr Andersen. Since 2007 Maersk Line has cut the average CO2 impact of a container by more than a third. Simultaneously, Maersk Line’s focus on energy efficiency has made the company significantly more cost competitive thereby decoupling growth from resource consumption Maersk Line has set itself a bold new target of reducing CO2 emissions per container moved by 60%, relatively to 2007 standards. IMO Member States not to prohibit access to the Arctic

The Danish Maritime Forum took place in Copenhagen, Denmark  6-10 October 2014 . Over 200 business leaders, industry opinion shapers as well as international government representatives gathered to discuss the potential of the maritime industry as well as address its various challenges  The Forum focused on harnessing the collective wisdom of the leaders of the maritime industry in order to tackle the industry’s emerging challenges. ‘As seamen and women we need to ask where we are, where do we want to go and how are we going to get there’ said HRH Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark.  Maersk Line has posted a relevant article including opening notes from the forum. Among others, Mr Victor Olersky, Russia’s Deputy Minister of Transport stated that Russia as long as other IMO Member states shall not implement measures which will prohibit access to the Arctic Route.
