Bangladesh’s second LNG storage and regasification vessel has moored off its coast, aiming to help supply the country with the alternative fuel. The FSRU 'Summit LNG' is moored 6 km off the island of Moheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar. It is expected that around 3.75 million tonnes a year of LNG will be imported through the facility, thus doubling Bangladesh’s LNG import capacity to 7.5 million tonnes per year.

ExxonMobil is discussing to create a platform that would enhance the export reach of Israel’s largest natural gas field. The oil major is negotiating with Israel’s Leviathan reservoir to establish a floating LNG vessel. This project would enable Leviathan to export to countries that cannot be reached with pipelines and avoid building expensive infrastructure to connect to LNG facilities in Egypt.

Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine's first FSRU has undergone maintenance work before its journey to the Bay of Bengal. When it arrives there, it will serve as Bangladesh’s second FRSU. The maintenance work took place at the Erhama Bin Jaber Al Jalahma Shipyard. During its drydocking, the FSRU went through various modifications and retrofitting of new systems, including the installation of a BWTS.

South Korea's Energy Projects and Infrastructure Korea (EPIK), an LNG project development company, announced the signing of a Strategic Partnership Agreement with Hyundai LNG Shipping Co., Ltd. The agreement lays out a framework for the two companies to work together in the development of FSRU projects around the globe.

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification volumes at Lithuania’s first and only import terminal in the port of Klaipeda reported mixed results for the first month of the year. Klaipedos Nafta, the terminal operator, published its monthly report according to which the facility regasified and reloaded 0.47 Twh of natural gas, 79.1% above the 0.26 TWh in the same month in 2018.

Japanese shipping company MOL published a video of the world’s largest floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) in operation in the Turkish port of Dörtyol, Hatay. The FSRU Challenger began operations in Turkey on February 2018. The floating storage and regasification unit has an LNG storage capacity of 263,000 cubic meters and has re-shipment and gas transfer capabilities.

Lithuania's LNG import terminal, 'Independence', is expected to double its LNG volumes after the opening of gas pipelines to Poland and Finland, 2021. The pipeline opening will turn the Baltic Port into a regional hub. 'Independence' mostly imported Norwegian LNG for domestic use, using a fifth and a third of its annual capacity of 2.7 million tonnes of LNG, after changing in 2017, along with its first US cargo import.

Germany’s Wilhelmshaven LNG Terminal will enable the loading of small LNG seagoing vessels and barges as a result of the newest cooperation between Uniper SE and Titan LNG, according to Uniper's press release. Both companies signed an MoU to accelerate the development of LNG as a fuel in the maritime industry, shipping and road fuel in Germany.

MOL signed deals for the construction of a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), FSRU services, and financing for the Jawa 1 Gas-Fired Project. This is considered Asia’s first gas-to-power project that will use an FSRU. Except MOL, Pertamina, Marubeni and Sojitz will also participate in the project.

Bangladesh is set to continue its LNG imports this week after solving the problems that were caused by its floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) that resulted in the cancellation of the delivery of two cargoes. The FSRU arrived in April ready to operate in Moheshkhali port by Cox’s Bazar.
