The Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) is currently meeting for its 83rd session from 7 to 11 April, 2025, where nations converse and debate actions to reduce shipping emissions and shape the environmental compliance plan for the maritime industry. 

The Clean Shipping Coalition in a statement on 2 April called on Member States to agree to a Global Fuel Standard (GFS).

The IMO’s Intersessional Working Group on the Reduction of GHG Emissions from Ships (ISWG-GHG 18), held from February 17-21, has concluded, sparking discussions and calls for further action within the maritime industry.

Following a week of intensive GHG negotiations at the IMO, ICS, emphasized the need for urgent progress ahead of the critical IMO MEPC 83 in April.
