The brand-new cruise ship MSC Grandiosa collided with a pier in Palermo, Sicily, during docking on Monday, December 30, morning. The port quarter sustained light damage above the waterline but was repaired the same day. A video emerged shows the MSC Grandiosa backing down and swinging the stern to starboard.

On December 21, Saturday, the bulker vessel "CDRY Blue" went aground on a rocky shore on the coast of Sardinia, Italy, leading to the Italian Coast Guard (Guardia Costiera) launching a rescue operation for those onboard.

After the Ro-Ro cargo ship 'Eurocargo Trieste' caught fire off Tuscany, on November the 21st, an inspection took place by technicians of the Harbour Office, to investigate the incident. The inspection found various anomalies, and the vessels was seized in Livorno on November 23rd.

A fire took place in the engine room of the Grimaldi-owned Ro-Ro cargo ship, Eurocargo Trieste, on November the 21st. The incident took place while the vessel was transiting off the coast of Tuscany. No injuries were reported, and the fire was put out.

The European Commission launched a thorough investigation in Italian ports to determine whether tax exemptions granted under Italian law to ports are in compliance with the EU State Aid rules; In the meantime, the Commission applauds Spain’s commitment in tackling tax exemption, in favour of Spanish ports, from 2020.

Costa Cruises and the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority have now reopened the Calata delle Vele cruise ship quay and Palocrociere Terminal One in the Port of Savona, Italy, after an extensive renovation process. The Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority invested €17 million to conduct modifications to the quay.
