An agreement between the Department of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Trieste, Fincantieri and Intergraph Italia, resulted to the creation of a new “Integrated Ship Design Lab” in Italy. The Integrated ship design is a new methodology able to take into account all the requirements and constraints since from the early stages of design process.  

Fire broke out in a cargo hold of the bulk carrier "Golden Eclipse", which was docked at Civitavecchia, Italy, on March 28. The vessel was offloading coal, and about 2500 tons of coal were found in the hold in which the fire erupted. Firefighters arrived on the scene of the incident, trying to put out the fire, while also making sure that there are no smoldering spots left inside the ship.

Two people lost their lives and one has sustained critical injury, following an explosion, Wednesday afternoon, at an industrial cistern in the Italian port of Livorno, one of country's biggest passenger and commercial ports. The two men had been doing maintenance on the storage tank when the blast occurred, at approximately 2.00 pm.

The NGO Transport & Environment released a ranking in which it presents the best and worst performing countries in Europe's attempt to reduce GHG emissions. Germany, Belgium and France are the top performers, while Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Portugal and Croatia are the worst.

GIE's Small-Scale database reports that Small scale LNG infrastructure depends heavily on how close large scale LNG import terminals are. At the end of 2017, 75% of operational small-scale LNG infrastructures were in countries that have large scale regasification terminals, mainly in Western Europe.

Fincantiery announced that it completed a share purchase agreement for the acquisition of 50% of the share capital of STX France from the French State, represented by the Agence des Participations de l'Etat. The agreement between the two companies is subject to the closing of the transaction between the French State and STX Europe and to customary conditions.

The Belt and Road Initiative was initially proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013, in order to build trade and infrastructure networks, which will connect Asia with Europe and Africa through the ancient Silk Road routes.

The Italian shipping company, RBD Armantori, located in Naples, has been officially declared bankrupt by the Court of Torre Annunziata, earlier this week. Armantori tried to create a rescue plan. Such a thing did not happen and as a result, there weren't the necessary requirements for the company to be saved.

ABS has been authorized as a Recognized Organization for Italy, giving the organization the ability to carry out statutory reviews and certifications on behalf of the Italian Flag Administration. 

The Bulgaria-flagged general cargo ship 'Seven Star' was detained in Salerno, Italy, as she was found carrying a cargo of hazardous iron waste, which is to be offloaded at the port and arrested.
