On 16 April, the Suez Canal Authority celebrated its “Day of Excellence” by unveiling a series of new maritime services, including the launch of new ship waste collection service.
During the event, Admiral Osama Rabie highlighted the canal’s progress in expanding and modernizing its maritime fleet. Over the past period, 24 new and advanced maritime units have been added to enhance navigation safety and efficiency, supporting the canal’s role in global trade.
A major announcement was the launch of a new ship waste collection service in collaboration with Greece’s V Group. This service, compliant with European standards and IMO environmental guidelines, will begin with collecting solid waste and later expand to include liquid waste collection and the development of a facility to convert waste into alternative fuel.
These efforts, as stated, are part of the Suez Canal’s broader strategy to become the world’s first “green canal” by 2030.
V Group President Veron Vassiliadis emphasized that this initiative marks a new era of sustainability, and cooperation. He affirmed the company’s commitment to fighting pollution and investing in advanced, eco-friendly maritime technologies.
