As the Directorate General of Shipping, Mumbai informed, it has issued a circular on August 21 regarding its grievance redressal mechanism, as well as registration of complaints from Indian seafarers. In order to overcome procedural delays and expedite resolution of seafarers, grievances, the grievance redressal mechanism is being launched online for registering grievance and obtaining response thereon.

Essar Ports informed that higher capacity utilisation at its recently commissioned terminals at Salaya and Vizag, as well as an increase in third-party cargo will be the two key factors that will help the company achieve its target of handling 60 million tonnes of cargo by 31 March 2020.

Maersk will be cooperating with BlackBuck, an Indian online marketplace for trucking, aiming to provide an online marketplace for containerized trucking in export/import logistics in India. The  platform will be open to the whole industry. This move comes as India plans to decrease logistics costs from 14% of the GDP, to no more than 9% by 2022.

According to New York Times, India increased the cost estimate of a refinery and petrochemical project, that will be jointly constructed by Saudi Aramco and Abu Dhabi National Oil Co, by more than 36%, following farmers' protests on relocating the plant. The project is to be commissioned in 2025. 

The Government of India published  the Sea Cargo Manifest & Transhipment Regulations 2018 (Regulations framed under the Customs Act, 1962) following a number of extensions and amendments, which came into force on August 1, 2019.

Indian shipping Minister Mansukh Mandaviya informed that the country aspires to begin the navigation in inland waterways and passenger transportation in the rivers in the North Eastern states of India. The company Water and Power Consultancy Services Limited (WAPCOS) is now preparing a model Detailed Project Report, in order to operate low-cost ferry services in the inland waterways in these states.

Chidambaranar Port, one of the 12 major ports in India, marked a new record by handling 1,80,597 Metric Tonnes of cargo in a single day on 27 July 2019, surpassing the previous single day record of 1,77,639 Metric Tonnes on 16 November 2017, the Indian Ministry of Shipping informed. 

In a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha, Shri Mansukh Mandaviya, the Indian Minister of State for Shipping and Chemical & Fertilizers informed about the various preventive steps taken by the Government of India to address marine pollution. Shri Mansukh Mandaviya also informed that periodic surveys of Indian flag vessels are conducted, aiming to ensure compliance to the rules.

The number of the active Indian seafarers has increased by 45% in the last years; The seafarers are those that are of Indian nationality employed by Indian or foreign vessels. The number has increased by 143,940 in 2016 to 208,799 in 2018.

Ocean Network Express (ONE) launches a new direct service line that will cover South East India, Mediterranean and North Europe, called 'The Indian Ocean Service 3'. The first sailing of the loop is now expected to start from October 26, 2019.
