The U.S. Department of Justice seized the oil aboard a Russian oil tanker, and it is in the process of transferring the oil to the United States on a chartered tanker. 

The ferry Nissos Samos, with 332 passengers and more than 200 vehicles on board, drifted aground in Chios harbor, Greece, on May 19.

Following the recent news that the European Parliament recognizes the structural role of the commercial operators in shipping and the need for a sector-dedicated fund, the Union of Greek Shipowners (UGS)  welcomed the adopted position, highlighting that the “polluter pays” principle is the cornerstone of the EU environmental legislation.

As part of the European Union sanctions imposed on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine, Greece has impounded a Russian oil tanker off the island of Evia.

Ukraine called Greece to shut its ports to Russian vessels and stop business with Russian companies in an effort to increase pressure on Moscow to end the war, Ukraine's ambassador to Greece said.

The total fatalities onboard the Euroferry Olympia have risen to 5, after authorities discovered two more bodies on the ship, that was stricken by fire last week.

Another two bodies were located onboard the Euroferry Olympia, after relevant authorities searched the ship. Both bodies were located in the garage. In total, 3 dead bodies have been recovered.

IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim made a statement regarding the fire onboard the Euroferry Olympia, expressing concerns and congratulating the efforts of the search and rescue authorities of Greece. 

The Euroferry Olympia will be towed to port in Platygiali, Greece, where a search will continue for ten people still missing after the Ro-Ro caught fire last week.
