During the Posidonia 2022, DNV signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Saronic Ferries to enable the development of an electric ferry for local deployment in Greece.

On June 6, Posidonia shipping event welcomed back to Athens the global maritime community following the pandemic-induced cancellation of the 2020 event, with Greek Prime Minister Mr Kyriakos Mitsotakis to preside over the official opening of this biennial global event. 

Iran's supreme leader has confirmed that the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) seized two Greek oil tankers as retaliatory measures against the US confiscation of the Iranian crude aboard a tanker detained off Greece.

Greek maritime authorities called for international help to release the crews of two oil tankers that were seized by Iranian forces last week.

At a press conference held on June 3, DNV Maritime CEO Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen celebrated 100 years of the classification society’s activities in Greece, while looking ahead to the possibilities of a decarbonized industry based around increased collaboration and innovation. 

Following the seizure of Greek flagged oil tankers “Delta Poseidon” and “Prudent Warrior” on 27 May 2022, the International Chamber of Shipping and the European Community Shipowners’ Association (ECSA) jointly call for a quick and diplomatic resolution in order for the vessels and crew to be released.

The Combined Maritime Force (CMR) and EU NAVFOR have recently issued Industry Releasable Threat Bulletin (IRTB) 031 intended to help shipping operators who are responsible for merchant and large commercial fishing vessels that pass through, or operate in, the Persian Gulf, Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden (GOA).

Greece’s Shipping Ministry has made a “strong recommendation” to Greek shipping companies to avoid Iranian territorial waters when crossing the Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz and Gulf of Oman.

Iran responded to calls from France and the EU to release the Greek tankers it seized on May 27, with renewed threats against Greek shipping.

Reporting indicates that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have detained two Greek-flagged oil tankers in the Persian Gulf on May 27. The vessels have been identified as the MV Delta Poseidon, and the MV Prudent Warrior.
