Evergreen Marine Corporation signed to the Ship Recycling Transparency Initiative (SRTI) in order to share its aged vessels’ green recycling policy.

On 9 January, the French container company CMA CGM shake hands with its Asian counterparts COSCO Shipping, Evergreen Line and OOCL and inked an agreement for the launch of Ocean Alliance Day 4 Product, which is scheduled to start in April 2020. A total amount of 112 containers are going to be deployed by the shipping majors.

COSCO, China’s state-run shipping conglomerate has debuted a cross-industry treaty during the World Shipping Summit in Shanghai with the aim to strengthen collaboration among actors from different sectors within the industry. The first batch of companies to join the initiative are Cosco Shipping, Maersk, Evergreen, CMA CGM, Yang Ming, Seaspan, Zeebrugge Port, Shandong Port Group, China Grain Reserves, BIMCO, Chalco Logistics, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, China Mobile and China FAW.

Taiwan-based Evergreen confirmed plans for the construction of a total of ten 23,000 TEU containership giants at three different shipyards. The company will order six ships at South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries, two at China’s Jiangnan Shipyard and another two at Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding.

Wall Street Journal reported that Hapag-Lloyd and Taiwanese carrier Evergreen Marine Corp have separately placed orders to Asian yards for the construction of more than a dozen mega-container ships that would have a combined value of about $2.2 billion.

In the afternoon hours of Thursday, the Port of Rotterdam welcomed the giant green container vessel 'Ever Glory', Evergreen's first ever 20,000 TEU class container ship to be equipped with scrubbers, significantly reducing harmful emissions.

Asian Terminals Inc. and six major shipping lines agreed on January 19 to collaborate and carry out initiatives to mitigate the current logistics challenges that are caused due to the buildup of empty containers at the Manila South Harbor. CMA CGM, T.S. French container shipping company CMA CGM announced the launch of the Ocean Alliance Day 3 Product, along with its partners in the Ocean Alliance, COSCO Shipping, OOCL, and Evergreen. A total of 330 ships will be deployed under the new service, which is expected to start from April 2019.

Maersk and IBM are reportedly struggling with their blockchain platform, TradeLens, as besides them, only one other carrier has joined in, Pacific International Lines. This comes at a time when, Maersk's competitors such as CMA CGM, Cosco, Evergreen, OOCL and Yang Ming have also established a similar platform.

As part of its environmental sustainability targets and in line with Taiwan's green finance policy, Taiwanese shipping giant Evergreen has issued its first green bonds, becoming the second shipping firm globally to do so, after the Japanese NYK in April this year.
