For the sixth consecutive day, the megaship Ever Given remains stuck in the Suez Canal, after grounding on Tuesday 23rd of March, leaving more than 300 ships, including dozens of container ships and bulk carriers, unable to use the key trading route. Salvage efforts are ongoing while progress depends on wind conditions and tides. On 28 March, the Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, ordered preparations for lightening the ship's cargo.

Following the recent grounding incident of the large container ship "Ever Given" in Suez Canal, the vessel's company confirmed that crew, ship and cargo are all safe, while no marine pollution has materialized.

Salvage teams from the Netherlands and Japan will devise a plan to refloat the giant container ship, Ever Given, blocking the Suez Canal since March 24.

Taiwan-based Evergreen confirmed plans for the construction of a total of ten 23,000 TEU containership giants at three different shipyards. The company will order six ships at South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries, two at China’s Jiangnan Shipyard and another two at Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding.

Wall Street Journal reported that Hapag-Lloyd and Taiwanese carrier Evergreen Marine Corp have separately placed orders to Asian yards for the construction of more than a dozen mega-container ships that would have a combined value of about $2.2 billion.
