Evergreen reinforces intra-Asia service

A link to central China and the Philippines Evergreen Line will realign its fleet deployment and launch new intra-Asia services from mid-October.The existing Hua Bei-Hong Kong-Indonesia (HBI) service will be reorganised into two feeder loops.The new Hua Bei-Hong Kong (HBH) service and the Tanjung Pelepas-Indonesia (PIS) service will cover the scope of the HBI service, Evergreen announced on Wednesday.The weekly HBH service will have two 2,868 teu containerships running a port rotation of Xingang, Dalian, Qingdao, Hong Kong and back to Xingang.The PIS service will see one 1,164 teu vessel running Tanjung Pelepas, Jakarta, Semarang and back to Tanjung Pelepas.In addition, Evergreen will join Cheng Lie's China-Philippines-Indonesia (CN1) service by deploying one 2,846 teu vessel, along with three ships by Cheng Lie.This joint service will add another sailing of Qingdao-Hong Kong connection and extend a link to central China and the Philippines. The port rotation is Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Hong Kong, Manila, Jakarta, Surabaya, Manila, Hong Kong and Qingdao.Source: Seatrade Asia

EU Commission suspects Evergreen Marine and other shippers for cartel activities

All of the shippers are under investigation The EU Commission said it suspects that Taiwan-based Evergreen Marine Corp. and several other shippers have been engaged in cartel activities in violation of EU antitrust regulations.The commission said it launched an investigation into the matter on May 17 with a raid on the offices of the shippers since it had collected sufficient evidence pointing to their wrongdoing.However, the commission declined to disclose any further details of the probe or the alleged cartel activities, saying the investigation was still in progress.Apart from Evergreen Marine, the other shippers being investigated are Singapore-based Naptune Orient Lines, Hong Kong's Orient Overseas (International) Ltd., South Korea's Hanjin Shipping, Denmark's Maersk Line, CMA CGM of France and Hapag-Lloyd of Germany.All of the shippers, including Evergreen Marine, have confirmed that they are under investigation by the EU Commission.The commission said it will respect the right of the shippers to defend themselves and has no presumptions on the results of the probe.It also said it has no timetable for wrapping up the investigation, as this will depend on several factors such as the complexity of the case and whether or not the shippers will cooperate with the investigators.The commission's records ...

Evergreen orders 10 additional 8,000-TEU ships from China Shipbuilding

Ten environmentally advanced vessels The Evergreen Group has ordered and signed a contract with China Shipbuilding Corp. (CSBC) today for ten 8,000-TEU container vessels.The contract, signed by Bronson Hsieh, Evergreen Vice Group Chairman, and Tang Tay-Ping, CSBC Chairman, is for Evergreen's third-time order of L-class environmentally advanced vessels and marks the global ocean carrier's last order from Taiwan's CSBC since 1997.Three of the new vessels will be built for Evergreen Marine Corporation, four for Evergreen Marine (UK) Ltd., and three for Evergreen Marine (Singapore) Pte Ltd. All will be utilized for Evergreen Line's worldwide services in various trade lanes. The first new vessel is due for delivery in 2013.As part of its newest shipbuilding program, The Evergreen Group placed orders with Samsung Heavy Industries Co. last July and September for twenty 8,000-TEU L-class vessels, which are due for delivery beginning in 2012.As with those L-class ships, the new ten ships will have an overall length of 334.8 meters (1100 feet) and a beam of 45.8 meters (150 feet) and a maximum draft of 14.2 meters.
