Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), published the 2019 Cruise Trends and State of the Cruise Industry Outlook. The report analyses the trends affecting cruise travel in 2019 and beyond, as well as the total global economic impact.

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) announced that its Global Executive Committee has appointed Kelly Craighead as President and Chief Executive Officer as from 1 January 2019. Mrs. Craighead will be taking over the role currently held by Cindy D'Aoust, who in July of this year announced her intent to leave her position by year’s end.

The Croatian city of Dubrovnik announced the launch of new measures in order to manage overtourism from cruising. Namely, more and more tourist are choosing to cruise in Dubrovnik, causing congestion. As a result, the city decided to limit the cruise ships docking at its piers to two, beginning next year.

Τhe Port of Riga Authority participated in a summit organized by CLIA, the cruise industry association. The Port promoted Riga as an attractive and welcoming destination, emphasizing that a number of measures have been taken to make the port more suitable for cruise ships, both in terms of shipping safety and capacity.

More Australians than ever are choosing cruises for a holiday, with Cruise Lines International Association Australasia revealing that in 2017 the Australian cruise market grew by 4.4%, equating to almost 6% of the Australian population taking a cruise last year.

According to the seventh edition of the Cruise Lines International Association’s Travel Agent Cruise Outlook research report, the cruise industry is continuing strong. Namely, cruise sales are on the rise for 79% of travel agents. Alaska lies at the top of the list of popular destinations.

A record total of 98,000 New Zealanders sailed the world’s oceans on a cruise holiday in 2017, with a 8.7% leap in passenger numbers, validating the country's position as one of the world’s fastest-growing cruise markets, according to CLIA Australasia’s 2017 New Zealand Source Market Report.

CLIA released their annual 'Asia Cruise Trends' report, revealing that most Asian source markets registering double-digit year-on-year growth. The number of Asian passengers in 2017 grew at an impressive rate, with increases in passenger volume across most of the Asia markets compared to 2016.

The Freeport of Riga Authority announced that it has become a member of CLIA. Membership in this organisation will enable the Freeport of Riga Authority to cooperate with the world’s largest cruise line operators, facilitating the development of the cruise sector in the Port of Riga.

2017 has been another positive year for cruise industry, with a significant passenger growth, according to CLIA's recently-released cruise industry numbers for the year. The industry has surpassed the 2017 ocean cruise passenger projections, reaching 26.7 million passengers globally up from a projection of 25.8 million.
