Two men lost their lives and five other workers suffered severe burn injuries, after an explosion onboard the crude oil tanker 'Bunga Kelana 4', at the Chittagong shipbreaking area, namely at Mahinur Ship Breaking yard, in the early morning hours of Wednesday.

According to Xinhua, the government of Nepal is working to send two government teams to China, to study the possibility of Chinese ports being used as a third country trade. This step follows Nepal and China's signed protocol concerning the transit transport agreement.

Bangladesh has employed its second LNG terminal with the beginning of operations of FSRU 'Summit LNG' offshore Moheshkhali Island in the Bay of Bengal. As reported by Excelerate Energy the FSRU completed the commissioning on April 29, 2019.

Bangladesh’s second LNG storage and regasification vessel has moored off its coast, aiming to help supply the country with the alternative fuel. The FSRU 'Summit LNG' is moored 6 km off the island of Moheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar. It is expected that around 3.75 million tonnes a year of LNG will be imported through the facility, thus doubling Bangladesh’s LNG import capacity to 7.5 million tonnes per year.

The bulk carrier 'Crystal Gold' remains unmoved from its position polluting the environment at Chittagong's Parki Sea Beach in Bangladesh, two years after it broke loose from its moorings and ran aground in heavy weather conditions. 

There were a total of 181 ships broken in the first quarter of 2019, according to figures released by NGO Shipbreaking Platform. Of these, 142 ships were sold to the beaches of South Asia. Meanwhile, between January and March, three workers lost their lives and four were severely injured in Bangladesh. 

Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine's first FSRU has undergone maintenance work before its journey to the Bay of Bengal. When it arrives there, it will serve as Bangladesh’s second FRSU. The maintenance work took place at the Erhama Bin Jaber Al Jalahma Shipyard. During its drydocking, the FSRU went through various modifications and retrofitting of new systems, including the installation of a BWTS.

A fire broke out in the engine room on board a tanker, beached in Chittagong, on February 18, killing two workers. According to information, the two men died while scrapping the ship Greek Warrior at Shagorika Ship Breaking Yard. One of the men was burned and rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, but he died before reaching the hospital. The body of the second man was discovered on board a few hours later. 

Royal HaskoningDHV and the Bangladesh University of Engineering Technology are selected as the master plan consultants for the Payra Deep Sea Port Development Project in Bangladesh. The development of the Payra Deep Sea Port aims to improve capacity and transit times, and support the country’s economic growth. The port is planned to start operations by 2022.

India's Minister of State for Shipping Shri Pon Radhakrishnan shared the benefits of sending trucks through sea routes, as the country has been exploring new avenues for promotion of shipping, commerce and trade through coastal shipping.
