The LNG bunker supply vessel Kairos, operated by Nauticor, carried out the first LNG bunkering operation in the port of Södertälje, Sweden, where it delivered 150 tons of LNG. The operation occurred on September 12 at Södertälje’s oil terminal.

The Baltic Ports Organization entered the World Ports Sustainability Program, after the signing of the WPSP declaration by Mr Bogdan Ołdakowski, BPO Secretary General. The Program aims to improve and coordinate future sustainability efforts of ports worldwide.

Using advanced underwater robotics, an international team of scientists has revealed the remains of an intact shipwreck from the Early Modern Period (late 15th – early 16th century) in the Baltic Sea. The project comes as a result of the ongoing partnership between MMT and the University of Southampton.

In order to achieve Lithuania’s strategic renewable energy targets and exploit the possibility of offshore wind in the Baltic Sea to this end, scientists from Klaipėda University commissioned by the Ministry of Energy performed a comprehensive analysis of offshore wind development in the Baltic Sea.

Hamburg-based Containerships, a subsidiary of the French CMA CGM, announced it took delivery of its second LNG-powered ship, 'Containerships Polar', to operate in Northern Europe. The ship will be phased into the redesigned BALT 2 service in the Port of Rotterdam on 23 June.

Viking Line realized a keel laying ceremony for its new cruise ship 'Viking Glory' on 3 June, at the Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry shipyard in China. The ship, expected to operate in Baltic, is equipped with wind-power driven rotors and environmentally friendly engines.

Responding to scientific advice that several important Baltic fish populations cannot be fished sustainably, four non-governmental organisations have demanded a halt to fishing for overfishing in the Baltic. Coalition Clean Baltic, Oceana, Our Fish and WWF urged the European Commission to not exceed the scientific advice provided by the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) when setting all fishing limits in the Baltic Sea.

DNV GL announced that it awarded the Arkona Offshore Wind Farm with the project certificate. The certification procedure was based on the  German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency standard BSH7005 and covers all stages of the project development from design planning over construction to commissioning.

The European Commission announced that it will provide 215 million to finance part of the construction costs of the Baltic Pipe project designed to carry Norwegian gas to Danish and Polish markets. The signing ceremony took place on Monday, 15 April.

HELCOM (Baltic Marine Environment Protection Commission) published its "Alternative fuels for shipping in the Baltic Sea region" report, aiming to provide an overview of the recent developments on alternative fuels in the Baltic Sea, with the focus on LNG.
