CARB Marine Notice 2012-1
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has issued an advisory (Marine Notice 2012-1) regarding upcoming changes in the vessel fuel sulphur requirements beginning 1 August 2012. The advisory reminds readers that ships must comply with both the California Ocean-Going Vessel Fuel Regulation and the North American Emission Control Area requirements. Ship Operators are reminded that, as of 1 August 2012, ships going to the west coast of the US would be expected to have three different fuels onboard: open sea fuel (probably residual fuel with sulphur content up to 3.50%), ECA fuels (probably residual fuel with a sulphur content up to 1.00%) and a marine distillate for trading 24 nm from the CA shore line and for in-port operations.
