Russia-owned Sovcomflot ordered two more Aframax tankers, which will be fueled by liquified natural gas. The new acquisition of the two tankers, comes to add in the previous four LNG tankers that Sovcomflot ordered earlier this year.
The total of six ships are expected to be delivered in 2018-2019.
Furthermore, Sovcomflot will supervise the construction of five crude and product carriers, ordered by Rosneft. These ships will be delivered in 2021 and will have the same design as the Sovcomflot ships.
The ships were designed to use LNG as their primary fuel, complying with most stringent international Sulphur Oxide (SOx), Nitrogen Oxide (NOx), and Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emission standards to come into effect from 2020, amongst other areas, to the Baltic and North Seas.
In September, Russia-owned Sovcomflot, Rosneft, the State Transport Leasing Company, and Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex have signed a set of agreements, for the construction of five environmentally friendly Aframax tankers to enable export shipments of crude oil and oil products.
The 114,000 dwt vessels will be built by Zvezda jointly with South Korean Hyundai Heavy Industries.
