South Korea is trying to promote efforts by the international community to create a worldwide e-navigation system which will enhance efficiency and safety in the shipping industry, the South Korean government announced.
As Yonhap news agency reported, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said that 200 officials from 20 governments and international organizations will attend the second e-Navigation Underway Asia-Pacific gathering, which starts on Monday, June 4 in Seoul for a two-day run. There will be a total of five sessions, while 22 reports will be presented.

e-Navigation is about the utilization of the information and communication technology (ICT) to make navigation and communications more efficinet between ships and with the shore to eliminate the risk of accidents.
IMO and countries worldwide are currently attempting to get the system operational by 2020. The latest gathering will target to increase interest in e-navigation among Asia-Pacific countries, while earlier discussions regarding e-navigation, were generally focused around Europe and the US.
