Smyril Line has signed a contract with CIMC Raffles shipyard in China to build two eco-friendly RoRo vessels, each measuring 190 meters in length and with 3,300 lane meters for trailers.
Scheduled to commence sailing in 2026, the vessels are designed for optimal year-round seaworthiness in the challenging conditions of the North Atlantic. According to the company, the vessels emit significantly less per transported ton compared to the existing fleet due to the technologies onboard.
Apart from being methanol-ready, they also feature a battery system, and the option for shore power. The energy-saving is estimated to be at least 60%, contributing to Smyril Line’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
