Following China’s announcement of increasing the security level for Chinese-flagged vessels heading through the Strait of Malacca, MPA Singapore issued a statement according to which the port of Singapore will maintain security level 1.
Specifically, MPA Singapore highlighted that they haven’t received any information on immediate threats to vessels passing the Straits of Malacca and Singapore (SOMS) or to Singapore registered ships.
Moreover, although it will maintain its Security 1 level, following the International Ship and Port Facility Security code, Singapore’s security agencies will continue being alerted for any developments or changes.
Regardless of the security level, all ships transiting the SOMS are advised to be vigilant and implement the relevant security measures as per ISPS ships security plan.
MPA will closely monitor the situation and provide updates to ships traversing the SOMS and Singapore registered ships.
