Shell officially informed that made a “significant gas and condensate discovery” during its exploration in the Browse Basin off the North West Coast of Western Australia. Specifically, the discovery came when drilling in the Bratwurst-1 exploration well.
Shell’s environment plan for the drilling was submitted back in January 2019 while eventually gained permit in May 2019.
According to the company, the drilling of the Bratwurst-1 exploration well within title AC/P64 was completed a few weeks ago, on December 4, after a 78-day campaign.
The campaign managed to be finished in just over 18 months from bidding and about a year from the AC/P64 title award. For the records, Shell holds 100% interest in the license.
The discovery’s location is 160km north east of the Shell-operated Prelude FLNG facility, while this finding brings an opportunity for a future tie-back to Prelude.
At the same time, it further boosts company’s development plans, focusing on more and cleaner energy, with LNG playing a major role for Shell in Australia.
Gas is a core component of our strategy to provide more and cleaner energy solutions. Today’s announcement shows how, through exploration, we are building a strong pipeline of discoveries to support our assets in Western Australia.

Recently this month, Shell signed a $10 billion “innovative deal” loan with 25 banks and also came in an agreement with CMA CGM to pay attention in the biofuel supply matter.
