The South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) commented on a recent incident that took place on the Vaal Dam, commencing a preliminary investigation to understand the causes and factors that led to the tragic incident.
To remind, a boat carrying seven people capsized at the Vaal River on Saturday, resulting in five confirmed fatalities. For the time being, it is believed that the boat took on water.
The two survivors were picked up by another vessel and after, divers found the rest of the five fatalities.
Now, SAMSA in a statement in Pretoria noted
The South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) has commenced with the preliminary enquiry to the cause of the small vessel tragic incident that happened this past weekend on the Vaal River.
SAMSA is an agency of the Department of Transport whose mandate includes the regulation of inland waterways (only waterways accessible to the public) within the Republic and to ensure boating safety on their waters.
