The complex salvage operation of the MV Sounion, a 900-foot tanker carrying approximately one million barrels of crude oil, has commenced.
According to a recent update from EUNAVFOR ASPIDES, tugboats have successfully connected to the stricken vessel, and the towing process to move it to a safer location is now underway. The MV Sounion was hit by projectiles and caught fire on August 21, sparking a significant environmental and maritime security concern.
