QatarEnergy is negotiating with three major South Korean shipbuilders—HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, Samsung Heavy Industries, and Hanwha Ocean—for a substantial order of LNG carriers.
According to industry sources, these talks, which began in June, could lead to a contract worth about 9 trillion won ($6.6 billion) for up to 20 Q-Max LNG carriers. Since 2022, QatarEnergy has signed TCPs for the long-term charter and operation of 104 conventional LNG vessels as part of its LNG fleet expansion program.
Additionally, in late March, 2024, QatarEnergy signed time-charter party (TCP) agreements with Qatar Gas Transport Company Limited (Nakilat) for the operation of 25 conventional-size LNG vessels as part of the second ship-owner tender under QatarEnergy’s LNG Fleet Expansion Program.
