Skuld P&I Club advice on current issues in the ports of Panama
Whether as a port of call for a cargo voyage, a stopover for a cruise ship, or most likely a point of transit along the canal, the ports of Panama are essential to shipping and many of the Association’s members will call at them during the coming years.
Panamanian ports can, however, also provide challenges to members and the Association has had to assist with matters there on a not infrequent basis. The Skuld P&I Club has issued summary of some of the most frequent and recent problems faced by ship owners and cargo interests while using Panamanian ports, including:
- Damage to cargo, containers and vessels
- Incidents of theft / Disappearance of containers
- Abandoned cargo
- Injury to dockworkers
- Cargo inspection by customs authority
