In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, one employee at the Port of Virginia found to be infected by the disease. According to the port authorities, after the positive test of the employee, the port’s area had been carefully sanitized with the aid of a specialist contractor.
Following the covid-19 positive case, the port continues its operations under normal conditions. In fact, Port of Virginia has set several safety measures in order to avoid a further spread of the disease.
As a precautionary measure, the Port of Virginia is checking the temperature of anyone arriving at Norfolk International Terminal and Virginia International Gateway.
In case that an individual has a temperature of more than 38 degrees Celsius, then he is not allowed to enter the port.
In an effort to reduce an infection, similar measures will be soon set at the Port of Virginia’s other terminals, including Portsmouth Marine Terminal and Newport News Marine Terminal.
For the records, the screening operations are not applied to truckers, who do not physically contact with port employees within the terminal.
Among others, the Port of Virginia has installed a new priority system for health-critical cargoes such as medical equipment, hand sanitizer, personal protective equipment and other goods necessary for the COVID-19.
