The port of Quy Nhon, in Vietnam, is congested at the time, because of a storm that occurred in the area, resulting in multiple vessels to sink, thus blocking ship traffic, sources report.
The storm hit the port on November 4, making the port authority to issue a temporary block of the channel and reduce ship traffic to vessels with draft up to 5.5m.
The vessels are allowed to sail only during 6am to 5pm, informed the Quy Nhon’s port authority, thus making the weekly services from the port difficult.
This development has caused Maersk problems, as the company informed that it will have to deploy extra vessels in order to maintain its weekly service. Something that raises the cost of such an operation, Maersk added.
Finally, as Maersk mentioned, in order to balance the new costs, the company will implement an export congestion fee (CFO) to cargo moving in and out of Quy Nhon port, as off November 15 for non-FMC corridors and from December 15 for FMC corridors.
