Port of Rotterdam shake hands with Evides Waterbedrijf and inked a new contract to supply drinking water to the island shipping. Through their collaboration, the port will add a fourth drinking water boat to its fleet. In fact, the ship is scheduled to deliver water to the western port area.
With the commissioning of an additional drinking water boat, Port of Rotterdam aims to give a boost to island shipping, since it plays a vital role to port’s connection to the hinterland.
Research confirmed the need for inland shipping for an additional drinking water supply in the west. With the construction of Maasvlakte 2 and the arrival of new terminals, berth waiting areas, many more ships are coming there.

In the meantime, the vessel is berthed in the Scheurhaven before starting sailing in district 4. Meaning Europoort, Calandkanaal with adjacent ports, Maasvlakte, Beerkanaal with adjacent ports, Seinehaven, Neckarhaven and Dintelhaven.
Evides Waterbedrijf provides drinking water to island shipping in the Rotterdam port for more than 100 years, as it supplies 90.000 cubic meters of drinking water to around 13.000 customers per year.
It is in line with our legal task to provide every consumer and the business community in our supply area in the southwestern Netherlands with drinking water. We are proud to be part of the largest port in Europe in this special way.

Overall, Port of Rotterdam recently announced that along with Shell Geothermal BV are jointly investigating the possibilities for geothermal energy in the Port of Rotterdam’s western section.
