Port of Rotterdam Authority, Tilburg multi-modal terminal operator, GVT, and Chengdu International Railway Port Investment & Development Group announced that they have signed a declaration of intent. The aim of the cooperation is to transport more freight via rail between the largest European ports and Chengdu.
The declaration of intent was signed during the 800th journey of a direct freight train connection between China and Rotterdam.

Namely, the Chengdu-Tilburg-Rotterdam-Express currently operates three times a week in 15 days via Kazakhstan and Moscow.
The load factor during the westward journey from China to the Netherlands is extremely high, while the load factor on the eastward journey still has about 20% available space, as GVT informed.
For this reason, the focus has shifted to ensure better connections with the North American market through the Port of Rotterdam.
In addition, more shortsea freight can also be transported from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Scandinavia and the Baltic States using rail to the Far East.
