According to local sources, the passenger ship ‘Aegean Odyssey’ suffered an engine failure while it was sailing closely to Chania, Crete island, Greece. Chania Port Authority was immediately informed in order to assist the vessel. The passenger ship had 339 people on board.
Specifically, the Malta-flagged vessel began its voyage from Malta to Souda, the port of Chania and experienced an engine failure on Sunday, April 21.
After reporting the incident to the port authority, two tugs were deployed to assist the vessel sail to Chania.
Both tugs assisted the vessel berth at Souda port.
The port Authority denied the departure of the vessel, prior to restoring the problem and advised that the vessel’s class should monitor the procedures.
Additionally, the passenger vessel will be tested in order to decide whether it can continue operations or it will be replaced.
Concluding, as local sources report there was no injury or pollution in the area of the incident.
