According to the Philippine Coast Guard, a Panama-flagged cargo vessel ran aground near Philippine Lauis Ledge Lighthouse, off Talisay coast, Cebu, on August 3. The incident took place when the vessel was entering the Traffic Separation Scheme, South Cebu-Mactan.
Accordingly, the Coast Guard Station Cebu was informed about the incident by the Traffic Monitoring system.
Onboard the vessel were 18 crewmembers; 13 Chinese, 3 Vietnamese and 2 Myanmar nationals.

MV “Arikun” is bound to Cebu International Port with 287,167 liters of fuel onboard. For the time being, the incident is being investigated. There were no injuries and no pollution reported.
Consequently, the Marine Environmental Protection Unit- Central Visayas conducted an assessment which yielded to a negative result of oil spill.
The Philippine Coast Guard lastly dealt with a marine incident in early July, when a Phillippine ro-ro vessel caught fire while it was docked and under repair at FF Cruz Wharf, Mandaue City, Cebu. The fire was finally extinguished and there was no oil spill reported.
