On September 2, 2024, an Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) crashed into the Arabian Sea about 45 km from Porbandar while conducting a medical evacuation.
The helicopter, dispatched at 11 pm to conduct a medical evacuation for a seriously injured crew member aboard the Indian-flagged Motor Tanker Hari Leela, was forced to make an emergency landing in the Arabian Sea approximately 45 km from Porbandar. The distress call for the evacuation had come from the tanker’s Master.

The crash resulted in the deaths of two ICG personnel, including a pilot and a crew member, whose bodies were found inside the wreckage. Another pilot is missing, and a search and rescue operation is underway. One other crew member from the helicopter was rescued.
