The US Coast Guard informed that it responded to a report, regarding an oil spill, after petroleum product was released into the Black River in Lorain, Ohio, earlier this week.
Namely, a total of 20 gallons of mixed petroleum products were released, which includes hydraulic and waste oils.
The US Coast Guard was notified about the release by the National Response Center shortly. The report noted that sump pump at the steel manufacturing facility failed and released the product into a creek connected to the Black River.
A contractor has been hired by Republic Steel to begin clean-up operations, while the whole area has been boomed off.
The US Coast Guard is now cooperating with the US EPA and the Ohio EPA to ensure the released product is quickly and effectively removed from the river.
