Enova granted 65 million euros to five hydrogen projects for maritime fuel in Norway, according to reports.
Reports state that five projects for hydrogen production will receive support from Enova. The venture is to be a springboard for the use of hydrogen in Norwegian shipping.
Furthermore, the projects that have received support under Enova’s initiative, now and in 2022, will contribute to a production capacity of 100 MW as it is reported.
In addition, the projects will contribute to an emission reduction of 200,000 tonnes of CO2 per year. Per the reports, this corresponds to 5.5 per cent of the national emissions from shipping, citing Statistics Norway figures from 2022.
The emission reduction requires investment in a corresponding number of vessels, in order to be able to use the hydrogen.
To remind, in June 2024 Enova had announced its largest-ever allocation for maritime transport. Nils Kristian Nakstad, CEO, Enova, highlighted after the announcement that Enova aims to establish a functioning market for zero-emission sea transport.
Nils Kristian Nakstad had concluded by stating that supporting these vessels, ait creates stimulation of demand for alternative fuels.
