PSA Norway conducted an audit of Equinor and Transocean’s use of managed pressure drilling operations involving Songa Equinox in the Troll oil province, finding a non-conformity and an improvement point.
The objective of the audit was to verify that Equinor and Transocean, along with Enhanced Drilling and the other drilling and well service providers involved, are accomplishing the planning and execution of managed pressure drilling operations using the Controlled Mud Level (CML) drilling method, according to their own requirements, and requirements in the regulations and defined standards. This includes the acquisition, processing and use of experiential data from such managed pressure drilling operations for continuous improvement and risk reduction.

After the audit, a non-conformity was identified regarding a deficient functionality for drawing off gas volumes that may ascend return lines in the CML system.
An improvement point was also identified relating to unclear requirements for certified well control competence in respect of individual roles.
Equinor and Transocean have been given a deadline of 25 October 2018 to report on how the non-conformity and improvement point will be addressed.
