During the first week of June, further organisations became incentive providers of Green Award ,the quality mark and platform for all industry stakeholders striving for excellence and implementation of CSR principles in shipping. Ships certified by Green Award are sustainable, environmentally-friendly and they maintain and enhance best practices of the shipping industry.
Liberia has become the first flag state to participate in the Green Award programme, under which eligible shipowners will be offered significant annual tonnage tax discounts.
Scott Bergeron, CEO of the Liberian International Ship & Corporate Registry (LISCR), the US-based manager of the Liberian Registry, says,
“This initiative provides further confirmation of the pioneering role adopted by Liberia in all areas of global shipping, and underlines its commitment to environmental compliance by striving to ensure that Liberia remains the greenest fleet afloat.”
An official ceremony marking the Liberian Registry / Green Award initiative took place on 8 June, 2016, at the Posidonia event in Athens, Greece, during which the Liberian Registry’s CEO, Scott Bergeron, and Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Registry’s Piraeus Office, Dr. Michalis Pantazopoulos, accepted a Green Award commemoration to seal the co-operative agreement.
Scott Bergeron added, “The Liberian Registry is committed to helping ship owners and operators improve their green credentials and meet other corporate social responsibilities, and we believe that the Green Award scheme will help achieve those objectives.”
Alphatron Marine and Green Award Foundation announced that Alphatron Marine will reward Green Award certified ships with a discount of 10%. Green Award’s Chairman Capt Dimitrios Mattheou and Alphatron Marine’s CEO Mr. Luuk Vroombout met at Posidonia in Athens to affirm their cooperation. Mr. Vroombout received a Green Award plaque from the hands of Captain Mattheou marking the occasion of Alphatron Marine officially becoming a Green Award incentive provider.
Also, SetelHellas has become a new Incentive Provider of Green Award. The handover of the Green Award board ceremony was conducted on Tuesday, the 07th of June, 2016 at SetelHellas’ stand, No 1.120, Hall 1 at Posidonia Exhibition. SetelHellas S.A. has previously announced an exceptional financial incentive for ships and ship managers that are holders of the Green Award certificate. Captain Dimitrios Mattheou, Chairman of the Green Award Foundation, together with Jan Fransen, Executive Director of the Green Award Foundation, presented a Green Award plaque to Mr. George Marinakis, Managing Director of SetelHellas S.A and congratulated SetelHellas on becoming a Green Award incentive provider.
Furthermore, DNV GL joined Green Award Scheme during Posidonia. DNV GL will offer Green Award companies a 10 per cent discount on training courses delivered by the DNV GL Academy worldwide. The certificate holders and their vessels also receive a 10 per cent discount on audits related to environmental standards such as ISO 14000 and ISO 50001.
