Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has taken delivery of the Prima Verde, a multi-purpose vessel that possesses several eco-friendly technologies.
Delivered on January 30, 2025, the vessel is the world’s first to incorporate green steel materials, an engine capable of running exclusively on marine gas oil (MGO), and a wind-assisted propulsion system. Operated by MOL Drybulk Ltd. and effectively owned by Daishin Shipping Co., Ltd., the Prima Verde was delivered at Onomichi Dockyard, Co., Ltd.
According to MOL, the vessel features JGreeX, a green steel material supplied by JFE Steel Corporation that reduces CO2 emissions in the steel manufacturing process. It also has an engine from Japan Engine Corporation known for its high combustion efficiency and low CO2 emissions when running on MGO.
To further improve its environmental impact, the Prima Verde is equipped with two VentoFoil wind power-assisted propulsion devices from ECONOWIND B.V., which help reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by harnessing wind power.
